About Ten Thousand Thank-You Notes

Thank you. There seems to be a scripted time and place for these two words in today’s society: After we receive a gift, when someone pays us a compliment or following an important interview. Fingertip communication has made sending thanks to another easier than ever. We don’t even need to spell out the whole word, THNX or THNK U gets the point across. What has happened to the handwritten thank-you note? More importantly, what has happened to the thank-you notes we send that are fueled by heartfelt gratitude?

Ten Thousand Thank-You Notes is a revival of the thank-you note that has become buried by technology. It is a chance to express gratitude to someone for simply existing in this world.

It’s easy. Send a handwritten note or letter to someone else expressing your gratitude to them. There is something about a hand written letter arriving unexpectedly in the mail that beats all other methods of communication. It feels more personal than an email, more connected than a text message, more alive than an eCard. Let it be personal and let it be alive. There does not need to be an extravagant reason behind sending the note, just thank someone for simply coming along with you on this crazy ride called life.

Sign and seal your note and then send your gratitude out into the world.

The receiver of the note has one task, to pass a thank-you note on to someone else, to keep paying the gratitude forward. It is my belief that when our good intentions go out into the world they have a way of coming back to us in another form, unexpected and beautiful.

**These kinds of notes can be written at any time. There is no rule that once you have sent out your thank-you note(s) that you cannot send more at another time. Send a thank-you note a day if you please, make an ongoing list of receivers of your thanks. Just be genuine and send with the best of intentions.

I saw your idea on 29 Gifts and thought it was wonderful. This will be my Day 2 gift. Thanks for the fab idea!! I love it. The receiver will love it just as much!
